I admit I haven't even been to one yet myself, bu I intend to go this week to see Uncounted: The New Math of American Elections.
To everyone in Salem looking to find/build/support thinking community in our town... let's all go and check it out! Not just this film, but the series itself. It's at the Grand Theater.

Yes, yes, Hillary IS a well seasoned politician. This is why she's latched on to the "gas tax holiday" idea flown by McCain. It sells well. It sounds good. I mean, who wouldn't want to save money on gas, right!?
And have you stopped beating your wife yet?
Problem is, this situation falls apart under actual analysis. Is it woth saving a few bucks over the course of a summer to gut road maintenance funds which will in turn cost jobs, further damagint the economy, and result in poor roads which will no doubt result in more vehicle maintenance costs? One extra alignment is going to cost 5 times what would be saved over the summer with the "holiday." It would give some mechanics a bit of extra work in the last quarter of the year, perhaps...
And THAT is assuming that the producers wouldn't find a way to absorb the benefit themselves. And why wouldn't they?
Exxon Mobile just delivered a huge profit, among the highest in corporate history this quarter (WSJ). Oil companies are turning HUGE profits, and beating expectations, DESPITE the heralded higher costs of refining.
These companies are not non profits operating for the public good.
And Obama? He calls it what it is. A game. Not a solution, but a bright and shiny distraction that, in it's path, will leave more problems than it solves.
THIS IS ONE EXAMPLE OF WHY THIS MAN SHOULD BE PRESIDENT!
No, he's not perfect. But in this system we've got limited choices, and for once I've spent a lot of time reading about and studying candidates, and our system needs someone who will call things what they are and face them head on.
In campaigning I haven't seen that from McCain OR Clinton.
We don't need them.
